What is a Tweaker and what does "$50 put on the books" mean?

Whywont she admitit	What is a tweaker? Tweakers are the most loyal customers & $50 to put on the books. Can you tell me what this means. What is a tweaker and I heard that "put on the books" I heard that phrase last week. Trying to become educated. Thanks

It doesn?t matter what you call it. It doesn?t matter how you did it.? It brought us to our knees, because, without exception, that?s what it does. Is speed a problem in your life? Are you an addict? Only you can answer those questions. For most of us who have admitted defeat, the answer is very clear. Yes, we had a problem with speed, and no, we couldn?t fix the problem by ourselves. We had to admit defeat to win. Speed was our master. We couldn?t control our drug use. What started out as weekend or occasional use became daily use, and we soon found ourselves beyond human aid. We truly suffered from a lack of power to fix our problem. Some of used speed as tool to work harder and longer, but we couldn?t keep a job. Others picked at their faces and arms for hours and hours or pulled out their hair. Some of us had uncontrollable sexual desire. Others endlessly tinkered with projects, accomplishing nothing, but found ourselves so busy we couldn?t get to work on time. We deluded ourselves into thinking that staying up for nights on end was OK, that our tweaking was under control, and that we could quit if we wanted to, or that we couldn?t afford to quit, or that our using didn?t affect our lives. Maybe we saw a friend go to jail, or lose their apartment, or lose their job, or lose the trust of their family, or die, but our clouded minds wouldn?t admit we were next. Most of us saw no way out, believing that we would use until the day we died. Almost universally, if we had an honest moment, we found that our drug use made seemingly insurmountable problems in our lives. The only way out was if we had the courage to admit that speed, our one time friend, was killing us. It doesn?t matter how you got here. The courts sent some of us; others came for family or friends, and some of us came to CMA on our own. The question is if you want help and are willing to go to any lengths to change your life. There are other meanings of Tweaker also. One who fixes or fine-tunes things. Microsoft has a Tweaker program. Here's another: www.tweaker.net/home.php But at this forum, it means a meth user.
mystic girls	Re: What is a tweaker? I am new to this forum. I applaud all of the people who have come off of meth and also the ones that are trying to stay off of it. I am not an addict myself nor do I overtly know anyone who uses. I know this sounds stupid but I recently heard of meth, I didn't know what it was. For instance when I was in high school and I am probably showing my age (40), the most popular drugs were pot and acid and black mollys ( which I know are speed in a pill) but never heard of meth until now. Why do people get hooked from the first time and why do they keep using if it makes them pick at their skin and stay awake for days at a time and feel paranoid. It must really get a hold on you for them to keep doing it. Would love a response if anyone is interested in educating me.

It is said (and i agree) that ppl become hooked right away cause speed, meth,, ice, dope, shyt, etc. releases cells in ur brain that make you feel good like eating chocolate. Also this drug pretty much turns your emotions off. And sneaky drug that it is it makes you believe that you can accomplish more while on it when really you are just schitzing and not getting a whole lot done but creating more messes. It is now a drug that a lot of moms use cause it helps you lose weight and stay "active" for their little ones. As for picking at the face and scratching and so on I have heard a lot on this but mostly I have heard that some folks believe something is crawling on them that is the sensation on the skin and they scratch. I have know ppl to pick at their face all day long thinking they are removing hairs and pimples and black heads (eweeeee)Also this drug makes ppl very paraniod so JUST STAY AWAY FROM IT
Rancid1	Re: What is a tweaker? First off... I'm no doctor, scientist, or profesional in any sense of the word. But I am a tweaker. The reason that we get hooked to this substance, is because of what it does to your brain. It stimulates the release of dopamine which is a neurotransmiter that plays a role in the reward centers of your brain. Dopamine also has a lot to do with movement, thus the reason tweakers are usually very active. So what essentialy happens is you feel pleasure, you are rewarded for using meth. Your natural reward system is overcome because of the foreign substance. You feel more pride and basicaly flatter yourself with everything you do when you are high. Everything you expierience is just THAT much better because you short circuited your brain. It's stuck on happy pleasure mode. Then as your brain struggles to regain a state of normalcy in the process it destroys the excess dopamine. Our brain is not designed to release that much dopamine and its supposed to recycle it. So when you come down off the meth. You brain has finished cleaning up the dopamine spill and you are left with a feeling of emptyness. Compared to the (false) intense pleasure you just triggered by using... Nothing can really make you feel good. So the next time that you run into meth and have an opportunity to use. It's like.. Like the first time you did something that you LOVED to do. Well meth has that same effect. It falsely rewards you... You are cheating your own natural reward system. So @#%$ ya you want to use again.. The excitement.. It makes everything you love to do THAT much better. But guess what. You are also in the process... Destroying your brains dopamine supply. Your natural pleasure chemical. So guess what.. each time you use you are a little bit shorter on that supply. So things that would naturaly reward you.. Eating.. sleeping.. playing.. They start to loose their effect. You have less and less dopamine to go around. At the same time... If you get high again you know that you are going to feel great.. and you are going to have so much fun doing the things you like to do. This progresses to the point where you dread getting out of bed without the meth. Remember dopamine is also related to movement. We are god awfuly slugish and feel like our bodies weigh 100000 pounds when we quit using. On top of all of that.. When we do something that should bring us pleasure.. Instead of a rush of dopamine we have a little trickle left. So things just aren't rewarding anymore. It's sick sad and depressing. We don't even see it happening because we see nothing wrong with meth. We love meth. To the people studying psychology... I hope i didn't mess that up too bad. Like I said. I'm no doctor nor do i have any formal education on the subject. Please correct me if im wrong.

You all have made it very clear what this drug does and I definitely will stay away from it. e I am a very curious person but in no way do I want to even try something like that. Plus I am scared of it like I would be of something like Heroin. Just was very curious why it is so addicting and widespread. Rancid made it very clear as the others did as well as to what it does to you and how it sneaks up on you. I guess I am naive because I read Scott's story and didn't realize that it was even available in Australia and I hope that he is able to stay off of it from now on. Congrats to you Scott for being off of it and I hope you can remain away from it , and it was very wrong that your mother even had you try pot at all and thus set you up for a drug experience from then on I believe. One thing I am still curious about is this, Is the high similar to the feeling of pain meds like Vicodin. I would think that it is totally different more like a crazy speed effect than the other effect but am not sure. Also, where are most of you now, for instance are some of you parents and were you able to get your life back and not lose absolutely eveything such as family, job, home, etc., I do hope that I can stay on this forum even though I do not have an addiction. wishin an hopin	Re: What is a tweaker? whywontsheadmitit- a tweaker is someone who uses crystal methamphetamine other names for crystal methampetamine: crystal meth, crystal, meth, shyte, sh!t, glass, crank, go fast, speed, hillbilly heroin, poor man's crack. Crystal methamphetamine can be snorted, smoked, vaporized and inhaled and used intravenously. Crystal methamphetamine users are the "most loyal customers" because it is the most addictive illegal substance in the world right now. It is cheap to produce with easily obtainable ingredients and the recipies are on the internet. Crystal methamphetamine is so addictive and the withdrawals are so intense that many users need a constant supply in order to function through daily life, thereby creating a constant "demand" from the "supplier" (dealer). Depending upon the addict/user and how they use the drug they may go through a large amount of the drug in a short time period. All users/tolerance levels are different, based on personality/body mechanics/length and duration of use/type of use. Many addicts/users rack up incredible debt to the "suppliers" by putting amounts "on the books" where they get the drug up front and pay later. This often ends up with the addict/user stealing/selling items/dumpster diving and pawning objects to pay off these astronomical debts. Most suppliers will let this amount rack up to an incredible amount and then "go and claim" their money from the addict/user often with force and violence. This can cause an addict/user who is already paranoid/delusional to become even more paranoid/delusional and even more irrational and dangerous. This is just my two cents...hope this helped you.
angie Ncali	Re: What is a tweaker? Someone may have already said this ... But where I am from $50 on the books Means ... Someone gave the Jail $50 for you. If my mom came down and put $50 bucks on my books. It would mean I would have $50 to spend to buy food , and hygene items etc etc.
chodbritt	Re: What is a tweaker? i knew i was a tweeker when i was sitting outside high as a kite around 5 in the morning waiting for my friend to wake up and let me in and when i looked through my cell phone for someone to call to just talk to [ i know it was early but i was high ] i had no one in my whole phone that i could call, i lost them all. thats how i knew i was becoming bad.
